Innovate Product Design joins the Design Innovation in Plastics organising committee

London, UK – Alastair Swanwick, Managing Director of Innovate Product Design in Farringdon, London, is the latest member to join the organising committee of the country’s most prestigious student plastics design competition, Design Innovation in Plastics (DIP).

August 8, 2013

“I am delighted that Innovate Product Design has this opportunity to be more involved with this worthwhile competition,” said Alastair.

Alastair joins the committee as Matthew Thornton from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) leaves to join a new company.
Martin Sixsmith, DIP chairman, said: “Matthew has been a valued member of the committee showing creativity and innovation over the years, including introducing the new mentoring scheme, and we wish him well in his new career.

“It is important to maintain a strong team to keep the competition going and we are delighted that Innovate Product Design will be joining us on the organising committee. This is a fantastic opportunity which will bring valued design expertise and freshness to the table.”

Innovate Product Design first joined the competition in 2013 as a sponsor, by offering a work placement to one of the five finalists. This was recently awarded to James Scott from Northumbria University, for his ‘Rain Pod’, which can provide both shelter and drinking water during monsoons. James started his placement on 22nd July.

The organising committee is represented by a mixture of past winners, a tutor, plus sponsor representatives including Bayer, IOM3, HellermanTyton and the Worshipful Company of Horners.

Established in 1985, Design Innovation in Plastics is the longest running student plastics design competition in Europe. It represents a unique opportunity for talented design students to launch their careers and for universities to raise their profile as institutes of excellence in this field.
